Where is Barshinger Creek?
The Barshinger Creek is a tributary stream of the East Codorus Branch Watershed, that originates on the Red Lion Senior High School campus and flows through a 58 acre parcel of land that encompasses a scenic creek basin with rolling fields, woods, pond and wetlands. It is ideally located adjacent to the residents of Red Lion borough, and within walking distance of over 2,500 students. Since at least 1937, this land has enriched our community as a public green space, hosting the Red Lion Country Club, Copper Beech, civic clubs and event venues, and for nearly a decade, an outdoor science classroom and cross-country course for Red Lion students. Until March 2024, the land was under contract to be sold to a developer proposing to convert the property to high density residential use. Strong public opposition resulted in defeat of the development plan. We are now mobilizing to save the land permanently.
